APPOINTMENT SYSTEM

When you contact the practice, your request will first be assessed by a clinician or a suitably trained member of our team. You will then be directed to the most appropriate care, which may include:

  • advice by phone or text
  • an appointment with a GP, nurse, or other healthcare professional
  • signposting to another appropriate service

This change is designed to ensure you receive the right care, at the right time, from the right person. It will also help save you time, as you can submit your request using the online form available on our website, without needing to call reception.

You can still contact the practice in the usual way via phone if you have difficulty completing the form, use the online form, or at reception. Please provide as much information as possible about your problem so we can help you promptly.

If your condition is urgent, please let us know when you contact us. If it is a medical emergency, please call 999.

You can contact the practice for medical or administrative queries using our online consultation service. Online requests will be reviewed on the day (Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:30)

You will receive a message from the practice confirming how your request will be handled. Please note: this may not mean you will be seen today, but you will be informed of next steps.

If you have a non-urgent request for an appointment or a medical query, you can contact the surgery via the NHS App. See links below on how to register and submit your request.

Pharmacy First Scheme

You can also now get treatment for seven common conditions directly from your local pharmacy, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.

The Pharmacy First scheme was launched by the government and NHS England on 31 January 2024 to give patients quick and accessible care and support GP practices.

The seven common conditions are:

  • Sinusitis
  • Sore throat
  • Earache
  • Infected insect bite
  • Impetigo (a bacterial skin infection)
  • Shingles
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women.

You can get treatment for these conditions by walking into the pharmacy or our receptionist can also refer you to the pharmacy of your choice.

Urgent appointments

All appointments will be assessed by our trained clinicians. If it is deemed urgent please make sure you provide a valid telephone number for the staff to contact you.

Please do not request an urgent appointment for a minor or long standing problems.

Cancelling your appointment

Please cancel your appointment at least one hour before your appointment time so that it can be offered out to another patient.

If you do not cancel your appointment in a timely manner this will be noted as did not attend (DNA) and we have a policy where we can remove you if you have 3 or more DNAs.

Home visits

If you need to see a doctor and are too ill to travel to the surgery or are housebound, please telephone before 11.00am, (requests for visits made after 11.00am should be for emergencies only). Please only ask for a visit if you really need one. Home visits are time-consuming and there are better facilities for examining and treating you in surgery. Be prepared to give our staff full details of your symptoms. This information helps the doctor assess the urgency of the home visit.
